Welcome Back HTMMA 8th grade students and Parents,
Week 1 is in the books and we are off on a great journey of learning in 8th grade math/science. We were busy setting up our classroom, developing routines and of course, we jumped immediately into math. The first lesson in math was work in how to calculate your average using weighted percentages. Your grade is figured on 5 categories: 30 % Projects, 25% Homework, 20% Tests, 15% Participation, and 10% Quizzes. The syllabus was sent home for both students and parents to understand the key components and policies of my class. Students were already given the opportunity to earn 5 extra points on their next test if they brought the syllabus agreement form back to class. So get your form in!
This blog is just one way that you can find out about the work that students are doing in math/science. I'll try to post pictures of students in action and some of the projects they are working on. Our first project scheduled for launch will be Does Matter Matter- a study in Chemistry and the very small things in the universe. Check my DP for the project work.
As the week ended, students started dealing with Integer Operations by playing Integer War! Understanding Integers must be a basic and dependable skill by all students studying algebra!
Cheers for now,
Mr. Holmes
